Florida law enforcement, led by Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, has arrested 157 individuals in a human traff!cking sting dubbed “Operation Autumn Sweep.” Among those arrested were 25 illegal immigrants from countries including Cuba, Colombia, Guatemala, and Mexico.
The operation, which began on October 2, targeted illegal activities such as soliciting prostitution and aiding prostitutes. Three individuals were also arrested for attempting to sexually batter children.
Sheriff Judd revealed that 96 of the suspects were arrested for soliciting prostitution. The sting identified four possible human traff!cking victims out of the 47 prostitutes involved. Judd emphasized the impact of federal immigration policies, stating that 16% of those arrested were in the U.S. illegally. He also highlighted concerns over border security, suggesting that these policies enable traff!cking and other crimes.
Judd shared a case of a woman who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border with her child and was provided with government assistance, including housing and medical care. He criticized the federal government’s role, linking it to wider issues like fentanyl traff!cking. The sting also revealed suspects carrying illegal drugs and firearms, with ages ranging from 15 to 61.
The operation concluded earlier than planned due to Hurricane Milton, but Judd praised the swift arrests and the effort to combat human traff!cking in the region.
