3 European Airlines Halt Israel Flights Amid Rising Tensions

Citing escalating regional tensions, three major European airlines have suspended their flights to and from Israel, Israeli media reported on Sunday.

Italy’s ITA Airways announced that it would cease all operations to Israel until January 12, as reported by Israel Hayom via Anadolu Agency. As the only Italian carrier with regular service to Israel, ITA’s suspension marks a significant reduction in European flights to the region.

French airline Air France has also extended its suspension of flights to Israel until December 26, following a prior weekly cancellation policy. Initially halted through November 12, Air France’s operations to Israel are now on hold for an additional 45 days.

Greece’s Aegean Airlines has likewise postponed its Israel routes, aiming to resume service no sooner than December 3.

These decisions follow actions by other international carriers amid rising tensions. Last Wednesday, Spain’s Iberia suspended flights to Israel until the end of November after a missile strike from Lebanon landed near Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport. Additionally, American Airlines has removed all flights to Israel from its schedule until September 2025, while Virgin and Delta have suspended operations until spring 2025.

The ongoing cancellations underscore the growing concern among international airlines regarding the safety of flights in the region, impacting travelers and highlighting the wider implications of the conflict.
