5 Suspected Cultists Arrested, Firearms Recovered in Akwa

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested five suspected cultists and recovered firearms during a raid in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed in a statement on Thursday that the arrests were made on Wednesday at the suspects’ hideout in Ikot Etuk village following credible intelligence.

According to the statement, officers recovered a locally made pistol, a fabricated single-barrel gun, and assorted charms from the scene.

The suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in criminal activities, including a recent attack on Fulani herdsmen that resulted in the killing of two cows.

“The stolen cows were shared among different cult groups operating in Ibesikpo Asutan,” John added.

She further stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional weapons.

The police assured the public that updates on the case will be communicated as investigations progress.
