NMA Urges President Tinubu to Address Economic Crisis, Security Concerns Amid Protests

The Federal Capital Territory Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to tackle the underlying issues fueling the nationwide protests.

In an interview with newsmen on Monday, Dr. Charles Ugwuanyi, the Chairman of the association, highlighted the pressing issue of widespread hunger driven by soaring food prices.

“We urge the president to create a more favorable economic environment so that Nigerians can afford basic necessities,” Ugwuanyi stated.

He also emphasized the need for a comprehensive review of the country’s security situation, noting its significant impact on various aspects of life.

“President Tinubu’s efforts to address the myriad issues facing the nation have inadvertently resulted in severe hardships for many Nigerians. Despite his initiatives, persistent hunger and harsh living conditions continue to fuel public unrest,” he remarked.

Ugwuanyi pointed out that the challenging economic landscape has led many citizens to view protests as a vital means of expressing their grievances, though such actions pose a threat to national security.

“Nigerians are struggling with hunger, and the government must rise to its responsibility to alleviate their suffering,” he added.

He further called on the president to address the high cost of fuel, which he said exacerbates the financial strain on the population.

“The president needs to tackle these economic challenges and other related issues to ease the pain experienced by the people,” Ugwuanyi concluded.
