Safety Assured for Osun-Osogbo Festival Visitors on August 9
Visitors to this year’s Osun-Osogbo festival have been guaranteed a safe and secure experience at the sacred grove.
Mr. Oyindamola Olukanmi, Group Head and Media Manager for the event, assured the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview on Tuesday in Osogbo.
He stated that various organizing sub-groups have made comprehensive preparations for the successful execution of the festival scheduled for Aug. 9.
Olukanmi highlighted that coordination with state security agencies is underway to ensure a secure environment for all attendees, including international and domestic tourists.
“A robust deployment of security personnel is planned to ensure a memorable and seamless experience for everyone attending the grand finale,” Olukanmi said.
“Collaborations are ongoing with the Nigerian Army, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Odua People’s Congress (OPC), Amotekun, and other vigilance groups.”
He added, “We anticipate hundreds of tourists from across the country and the world.”
Outside the grove, preparations at hotels, Ataoja’s Palace, Freedom Park, and other key festival locations are in place for visitors’ comfort, he noted.
Olukanmi called for support from all stakeholders in the culture and tourism sectors to ensure the event’s success.
He pledged that the organizers are committed to making the 2024 edition one of the most memorable for tourists.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Osun State Police Command has assured adequate security measures before, during, and after the festival, guaranteeing participant safety.
SP Yemisi Opalola, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Osun, told NAN that “End Bad Governance/End Hunger” protests would not impact the event, as organizers agreed to suspend their protests on Aug. 9 in the area.
