A fire outbreak in Ladipo Market, Lagos, destroyed goods worth millions of naira in the early hours of Tuesday, authorities have confirmed.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), stated that the agency received distress calls via its emergency toll-free lines at about 12:09 a.m.

“LASEMA immediately activated the state’s emergency response plan, and a response team from our Cappa Base arrived at the scene by 12:16 a.m.,” he said.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the fire originated from a warehouse surrounded by shops and was caused by an electric power surge following the restoration of public electricity.

While no casualties were recorded, the inferno destroyed valuable goods, including electronics, generators, bicycles, auto spare parts, phones, and home appliances.

Emergency responders have sensitized warehouse occupants on fire safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
