In a historic move, pop superstar Katy Perry is set to embark on a space journey with an all-female crew organized by Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos. The mission, scheduled for spring 2025, will be led by journalist and Bezos’s fiancée, Lauren Sánchez.
Joining Perry and Sánchez are CBS anchor Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
This mission marks the first all-female spaceflight since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo journey in 1963. The crew will undergo extensive training to prepare for the suborbital flight aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket, which will take them approximately 65 miles above Earth for about 10 minutes.
Katy Perry expressed her enthusiasm, stating she hopes the journey will inspire her daughter and others to “reach for the stars, literally and figuratively.” Lauren Sánchez, who has been instrumental in assembling the diverse crew, views the mission as the fulfillment of a childhood dream and a step toward empowering future generations.
