Market women in Benin City, Edo State, staged a protest on Monday, demanding justice for Success Izekor, a four-month-pregnant trader allegedly murdered by her husband, Kelvin Izekor.

The protest, led by the Ikpoba Hill Market Women Association, saw women carrying placards and chanting slogans against domestic violence. They gathered near the couple’s residence at 50 Upper Mission Road, where the tragic incident occurred on Saturday, February 22, 2025—just eight months after the couple’s wedding.

According to reports, Kelvin Izekor allegedly stabbed his wife in the neck while she lay in bed. After the attack, he reportedly went to her shop on Sunday, took money from her Point of Sale (POS) business, and later attempted to dispose of her body secretly before being confronted by neighbors.

Edo State Police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect was nearly lynched by an angry mob before police intervened and arrested him.

Mrs. Odion Asemota, a leader of the market women, condemned the act and accused the suspect’s family of trying to influence the case. “His mother has been threatening to do everything possible to secure his release,” she alleged.

Speaking further, Success’ elder sister, Mrs. Ugiagbe Iziegbe, revealed that her late sister had suffered repeated abuse in the marriage. She called on authorities to ensure that justice prevails.

The Edo State Police Command assured that investigations are ongoing and the suspect will face prosecution.
