Ancient Manuscript Predicts World to End in 2027

A 900-year-old manuscript known as the ‘Prophecy of the Popes,’ attributed to Saint Malachy, has resurfaced, predicting that the world will end in 2027. This document, discovered in the Vatican Secret Archives in 1595 by Benedictine monk Arnold Wion, contains 112 cryptic Latin phrases believed to describe each pope from Celestine II in 1143 up to the current Pope Francis.

The final passage of the prophecy states: “In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock amid many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people. The End.” Some interpretations suggest that this signifies Pope Francis as the last pope, leading to the destruction of Rome and the onset of Judgement Day.

A 2024 documentary linked this prophecy to a passage from Pope Sixtus V in 1585, interpreting it to mean that the world would end 442 years after his papacy, pinpointing 2027 as the year of the apocalypse.

The prophecy has gained renewed attention as Pope Francis, 88, faces health challenges, and global tensions escalate with conflicts in Ukraine, strained U.S.-China relations, and Middle East instability. These events have led some to take Saint Malachy’s predictions more seriously, despite scholars debating the authenticity of the manuscript, with some suggesting it may be a 16th-century forgery.

While the prophecy’s legitimacy remains uncertain, it continues to intrigue those interested in eschatological predictions and the future of the Catholic Church.
