A joint patrol team comprising the police, army, and local vigilantes has neutralised a notorious kidnapper in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the operation in a statement on Saturday, identifying the deceased as “Honor,” a wanted armed robber and kidnapper.

According to Nansel, security operatives tracked and intercepted the suspect near the Akwanga Central Mosque around 10:00 p.m. on Friday. He was fatally shot while attempting to flee on a motorcycle.

A search operation led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol and 12 rounds of 9mm live ammunition. One of his accomplices escaped with gunshot wounds, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend him.

The suspect’s body has been deposited at Akwanga General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, commended the operatives for their professionalism and urged them to sustain efforts in tackling crime. He also warned criminals to desist from illegal activities or face the full force of the law.
