Authorities in Imsaad, a town near Libya’s border with Egypt, seized military equipment, including a radar system and explosive barrels bearing images of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, on the shores of Bardiyah, west of the town.
The barrels were reportedly marked with a warning: “Tell your leaders they will lose if relations with Russia continue.” Activists in Tobruk believe the equipment was transported from Syria to Libya’s eastern coastline.
Authorities have issued warnings to fishermen about the presence of explosive barrels along the Butnan coast. The Maritime Rescue Unit in Tolmeitha has urged fishermen and local residents to avoid any suspicious objects and report them to the nearest police station, security branch, or criminal investigation unit.
This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges in Libya, particularly concerning the smuggling of military equipment and the potential threats posed to local communities.
