Paris 2024 Chief Expresses Relief After Games Conclude Smoothly

Tony Estanguet, the head of the Organising Committee for the Paris 2024 Games, expressed relief on Monday that the event proceeded and concluded without any major issues. Speaking to journalists in Paris, Estanguet acknowledged the numerous challenges and threats leading up to the Games, making their successful conclusion even more remarkable.

“I am relieved and proud that the Games exceeded all expectations, especially due to the passion of the fans,” Estanguet said. He noted that the event’s smooth execution defied the predictions of pessimists and those who anticipated difficulties.

Reflecting on the Games’ organization, Estanguet expressed his satisfaction, stating, “I think it couldn’t have gone better.” He was particularly pleased with the positive feedback from international spectators, who praised the event as “the most beautiful Games in history.”

However, Estanguet admitted to feeling a bit melancholic now that the Games are over. “It feels strange knowing that it’s done, and that the Olympic Games are now behind us. It’s like a big weight has been lifted off my shoulders,” he added.

The Paris 2024 Games officially began on July 26, following a few preliminary events starting on July 24. The Games concluded on Sunday with a grand and futuristic closing ceremony, which included the symbolic handover of the Olympic flag to the Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee.
