4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Southern California, Spurs Safety Checks

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake shook Southern California on Monday, causing widespread tremors from Pasadena to San Diego. The United States Geological Survey confirmed that the quake was centered near Los Angeles, with residents reporting a “rolling sensation” that was felt as far east as Palm Springs.

Although no major damage has been reported, the quake disrupted daily life as dishes fell, car alarms were triggered, and a waterline rupture occurred in Los Angeles County. Emergency crews are currently inspecting critical infrastructure, including buildings and facilities, for any structural damage.

This earthquake follows another 5.2 magnitude quake that struck the Los Angeles area last week near Bakersfield, affecting communities from Santa Monica to Long Beach.

Adding to the region’s challenges, firefighters are battling a large wildfire in nearby San Bernardino County, with nearly 200 firefighters and 40 engines engaged in the effort to contain the blaze.
