Three NDLEA Officers Shot During Drug Raid in Abuja
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed that three of its operatives were shot and hospitalised after a gun attack during a drug raid in Abuja’s Jahi area.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Friday that the incident occurred during a raid on an uncompleted building in the NNPC area of Jahi, based on intelligence and surveillance.
Recovered from the scene were 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grammes of tramadol (225mg), 4.9 kilogrammes of skunk, and five Android phones.
The officers were ambushed with gunfire as they exited the location. One officer sustained a gunshot wound to the rib, while the other two were hit in the back and leg. They were initially stabilised at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 before being transferred to the National Hospital for advanced care.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd.), commended the Police Clinic team for their prompt response and thanked the National Hospital’s Chief Medical Director for personally supervising the officers’ treatment.
Speaking from Kano, where he was on official assignment, Marwa called the injured officers to express his support and wish them a speedy recovery. He also assured them that efforts were underway in collaboration with other security agencies to track down those responsible for the attack. (NAN)
