At the National Summit of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held on Thursday in Abuja, the leadership of the National Assembly (NASS) formally endorsed President Bola Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement was moved by Senate President Sen. Godswill Akpabio and seconded by Speaker of the House of Representatives Hon. Tajudeen Abass. This development came on the heels of a similar endorsement by Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who is also the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum.

Akpabio urged the party to adopt Tinubu as its sole candidate, stating, “Nigerians are saying that because you have done a difficult job well, that it is time to reward you by sending you back to the Presidency for a second term in office.”

He praised Tinubu’s political wisdom, highlighting the president’s success in setting Nigeria on a path of growth, a progress reportedly confirmed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). According to Akpabio, this has generated excitement among Nigerians, especially at the grassroots level, and even among members of the National Assembly who he said, “have never had it so good.”

Hon. Tajudeen Abass declared his support on behalf of the entire National Assembly, saying, “I stand on behalf of 109 Senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives, and all the 36 Speakers and their members,” to second the motion put forward by the Senate President.

The unified endorsement solidifies President Tinubu’s position as the APC’s candidate as the country gears up for the 2027 presidential elections.
