Flood Sweeps Away 60-Year-Old Motorcyclist During Lagos Downpour

A 60-year-old motorcycle operator, Wasiu Babatunde Adeniran, was swept away by floodwaters during a heavy downpour on Tuesday, May 20, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in the Alakuko area of Lagos State.

According to Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the tragic incident occurred around 4:00 PM when Adeniran lost control of his motorcycle in the raging flood and was carried away along with the bike.

“Efforts to locate the victim began immediately after the incident,” Hundeyin said in a statement issued on Thursday, May 22.

The search ended the next morning when Adeniran’s body was discovered around 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 21, at the Obasanjo River in Ota, Ogun State.

Police detectives visited both the scene of the incident and the recovery site, taking photographs and documenting evidence. The victim’s body has since been deposited in a public morgue for autopsy.

Hundeyin confirmed that investigations are ongoing and expressed the Lagos State Police Command’s condolences to the bereaved family.
