A senatorial aspirant in Benue South, Bashir Hassan Ekoja, has announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing the need to align with a political movement that resonates with the aspirations of the people and the realities of contemporary Nigeria.

In an official statement made available to the press, Ekoja said his decision followed “careful reflection and wide consultations” with supporters, stakeholders, and political associates.

“This decision did not come lightly,” he stated. “It is borne out of a deep desire to align with a political movement that reflects the yearnings of our people and the realities of today’s Nigeria.”

Ekoja, who is now a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said he is joining forces with the Coalition for a New Nigeria to build what he described as a stronger and more people-oriented platform.

“This is not just a change of party—it is a commitment to a renewed vision for service, development, and inclusion. The ADC represents hope, fresh ideas, and a bold determination to rescue our country from the cycle of recycled leadership,” he added.

He reassured his constituents of his continued dedication to their welfare and development, urging them to support his new political path.

“To the great people of Benue South, I remain committed to your progress, and I ask for your continued support as we move forward in this new chapter. The journey has just begun. Nigeria must rise—and we will rise together,” Ekoja declared.

Ekoja’s defection adds to the growing list of high-profile political movements ahead of the next election cycle, as new alliances continue to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
