Judge Denies Diddy Bail Despite Acquittal on Major Charges

A federal judge in New York has denied hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request for bail, ruling he will remain behind bars while awaiting sentencing, despite being acquitted of the most serious charges in his sex trafficking and racketeering trial.

Combs was found guilty of two lesser counts—transportation to engage in prostitution—out of five charges in the federal indictment. He has been held at a Brooklyn federal detention center for nearly a year.

Following Wednesday’s verdict, Combs’ lead attorney urged the court to grant his release, arguing that the dismissal of the most serious charges weakened the case for continued detention. Prosecutors, however, opposed the motion, citing Combs as both a flight risk and someone capable of interfering with witnesses, even while incarcerated.

Prosecutors also revealed plans to pursue a stiff sentence that could see Combs spend up to 20 years in prison.

Judge Arun Subramanian sided with the prosecution, pointing to Combs’ long history of violence, particularly against women, as a key reason for denying bail.

“The prosecution clearly established a pattern of private violence spanning decades,” Subramanian stated. He referenced video evidence shown repeatedly during the trial, including footage of Combs physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, and testimony describing a 2024 attack on another girlfriend, known in court as “Jane,” which occurred after Combs had already been indicted and his homes raided.

Combs remains in custody as the court prepares for sentencing in the coming weeks.
