Stray Bullet K!lls 12-Year-Old Boy During Street Clash in Mushin
Tragedy struck in Lagos State on Wednesday night, July 2, when a 12-year-old boy identified as Wasiu was hit and killed by a stray bullet during a violent street clash in the Mushin area.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. when Wasiu went to buy food from a vendor known as Iya Ibeji in the Olosha community. Unfortunately, he walked into the middle of a violent altercation reportedly involving rival groups engaged in a suspected cult-related confrontation.
“We started hearing gunshots around 8 pm, and people began running into their homes. Shop owners quickly closed for the day. Wasiu was waiting to buy food when he got caught in the crossfire,” said a resident, Tale Amoo.
According to locals, after the sound of gunfire subsided, residents discovered Wasiu lying unresponsive on the ground. Efforts to rush him to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) were thwarted by a locked hospital gate and the continued threat from the street violence.
“By the time we found him, it was too late. The hospital gate was shut, and we couldn’t take another route because of the cultists still hanging around. That delay cost him his life,” another resident recounted.
As of the time of filing this report, the Lagos State Police Command has not issued an official statement on the incident.
Wasiu’s death adds to growing concerns about public safety and the persistence of gang-related violence in parts of Lagos, especially densely populated areas like Mushin.
