Artisan in court over alleged theft of electrical cables

A 29-year-old artisan, Pamilerin Adekoye, on Thursday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing electrical wires and cables worth N250,000.

The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant and one other at large committed the offences on May 15, around 12.30 a.m. at Iwakun Street on Okitipupa-Ikoya road in Okitipupa magisterial district.

Omoyeigha said that the defendant and one other at large burgled an uncompleted building and stole some electrical wires and cables, property of one Robert Adekanye.

According to him, the offences are contrary to and punishable under Sections 517 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. I, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Mayowa Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with a surety in like sum.

Olanipekun said that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and present evidence of two years’ tax payment made to Ondo State Government.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Aug. 12 for further hearing.
