Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has responded to remarks by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, insisting he does not need clearance to visit any part of Nigeria.

Governor Okpebholo had reportedly suggested that Obi should seek approval before entering Edo State. In reaction, Obi dismissed the notion, stating that he is unafraid to visit any state in the country, especially when the purpose is to promote development.

Speaking in Onitsha during a ₦50 million donation to his alma mater, Christ the King College (CKC), Obi emphasized his commitment to supporting initiatives that uplift education, healthcare, and reduce poverty across Nigeria.

“I am not afraid of visiting any state in Nigeria, particularly when the purpose is to support causes that contribute to nation-building, such as education, health, and poverty alleviation,” he said.

The donation, made in collaboration with other CKC Old Boys, is aimed at improving the school’s infrastructure. CKC, founded in 1932, counts among its alumni prominent figures such as former Rivers State Governor Dr. Peter Odili and former Anambra governors Willie Obiano and Peter Obi himself.

Addressing the controversy surrounding his recent visit to Benin, Obi clarified that his trip was focused solely on supporting healthcare efforts in the state.

“I went to Benin to invest in a better life for the people. If they have good doctors and nurses, life will be better for them. What I expect the governor to do is to complement efforts aimed at improving society,” he added.
