Former American baseball player, David Justice, has opened up on the real reason behind his split from Hollywood actress, Halle Berry, saying her lack of domestic habits and motherly instincts influenced his decision.
Speaking on the All the Smoke podcast hosted by Matt Barnes, Justice recalled his mindset during their marriage.
“I’m looking at my mom, I’m a Midwest guy. So in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean, and I’m thinking OK, if we have kids, is this the woman I want to have kids with and build a family with? And at that time, as a young guy, she don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly,” he stated.
The former MLB star, who was married to Berry from January 1, 1993, to June 20, 1997, said he might have handled things differently if he had known about therapy at the time.
He admitted he was young and inexperienced, having only been in one relationship before marrying the actress. However, he insisted he should not be blamed for the split, accusing Berry of painting him unfairly in the public eye.
“Dead wrong,” he said of the movie star’s alleged portrayal of him as the problem in their failed marriage.
Justice has since been married to his current wife, Rebecca, for 24 years, and they share two children.
Berry, now in a long-term relationship with singer Van Hunt, has had two other marriages — to Eric Benet (2001–2005) and Oliver Martinez (2013–2016). She has a daughter, Nahla, 17, with model Gabriel Aubry, and a son, Maceo, 11, with Martinez.
