Israeli Strikes Kill 5, Including Child, in Southern Lebanon

Five people, including a 7-year-old child, were killed on Friday in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon, according to the state-run National News Agency (NNA). The first strike targeted a house in the town of Aita al-Jabal, killing two people, one of them a child.

Earlier in the day, another Israeli strike on the town of Tayer Harfa claimed the lives of three individuals, as confirmed by the Lebanese Health Ministry. The pro-Iranian Hezbollah group later announced that three of its fighters were among those killed, though it did not specify the exact location or timing of their deaths. Lebanese security sources indicated that the fighters died in the Tayer Harfa strike.

The Israeli military confirmed its involvement in the attack, stating that its forces had identified and eliminated a “terrorist cell” planning to fire projectiles into Israeli territory from the area.

In retaliation for the strikes, Hezbollah reported targeting Israeli surveillance equipment at Meron Air Base in northern Israel. This exchange is part of ongoing daily military confrontations between the Israeli army, Hezbollah, and other groups along the Lebanon-Israel border since the war in Gaza began. Most of the casualties on both sides have been Hezbollah fighters.
