Body of Tech Tycoon’s Daughter Recovered After Tragic Yacht Sinking
The body of 18-year-old Hannah Lynch, daughter of British tech mogul Mike Lynch, has been recovered from the sunken yacht Bayesian after a five-day search off the coast of Sicily.
Hannah, who was set to begin her studies at Oxford University this September, was one of seven victims who lost their lives in the tragic incident, which also claimed her father.
The yacht capsized early Monday during stormy weather, with the wreckage found 50 meters below the sea. The search, described as challenging by the Italian Coast Guard, faced difficulties due to debris and narrow spaces in the submerged vessel.
Specialized divers and rescue teams worked tirelessly to recover the bodies of those missing, while 15 others were rescued from a lifeboat.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Italian prosecutors may launch a manslaughter investigation into the incident.
Along with Mike and Hannah Lynch, others who perished included Jonathan Bloomer, chair of Morgan Stanley International, his wife Judy, lawyer Chris Morvillo, his wife Neda, and the yacht’s chef Recaldo Thomas.
Tributes have poured in for Hannah, remembered as a “charming and ferociously intelligent” young woman. Her family, devastated by the loss, expressed their gratitude to the rescue teams while asking for privacy during this time of immense grief.
Esme Lynch, Hannah’s sister, shared heartfelt memories, describing Hannah as “endlessly caring, hilariously passionate, and the best friend anyone could wish for.”
The trip, meant to celebrate Mr. Lynch’s recent acquittal in a decade-long. fraud case, ended in tragedy, leaving family and friends reeling from the unexpected loss.
