The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 112 kilograms following a road accident along the Zaria–Kano Road near Gadar Tamburawa.

In a statement on Thursday, September 11, 2025, the command’s spokesperson, ASN Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, said NDLEA operatives rushed to the scene after a Volkswagen Golf collided with a truck. Officers extricated the occupants from the car, but one attempted to flee and was immediately apprehended.

A search of the vehicle uncovered the cannabis consignment. The driver later confessed to acting on behalf of the consignor and admitted to making similar deliveries within and outside Kano. He also revealed that he had taken a one-way route to evade NDLEA checkpoints.

The driver is currently receiving medical treatment while under investigation, while the truck driver reportedly sustained a fracture in the crash.

The NDLEA commended the swift action of its patrol officers, stressing that the incident involved both dangerous driving and drug trafficking. The command reiterated its commitment to curbing illicit drug trade and urged the public to report suspicious activities.
