The Niger State Police Command says it has arrested four suspected armed robbers in Suleja and recovered items stolen during a recent attack.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Minna by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun.
Abiodun explained that the incident occurred on Sept. 6 at about 4:00 a.m., when the ‘B’ Division in Suleja received a distress call about a robbery behind a filling station in the town.
According to him, a police patrol team moved swiftly to the scene and found the victim with a head injury. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the robbers had already fled.
“The victim reported that the robbery gang numbering about ten invaded his house, attacked him, carted away over seven phones, one plasma TV, solar panels and other items.
“The police operatives commenced investigation through technical intelligence and four suspects were arrested in connection with the incident,” he said.
The suspects were identified as Umar Abubakar, 24; Ibrahim Lawali, 18; Sirajo Musa, 25; and Adamu Lawal, 25.
Abiodun noted that one of the suspects, Lawal, was found with 12 automated teller machine (ATM) cards, which he claimed he picked up at a waste dump. Musa was also linked to the crime after he left his slippers at the scene and was identified when he returned to retrieve them.
“In the process of returning to pick it up, he was identified and arrested.
“Lawali was found with two other ATM cards, while Umar Abubakar was found with a cutlass and mentioned other members of the syndicate as Aminu, Mubarak, Small, Goje and Dan-acha.
“The plasma TV was also recovered from where it was abandoned,” Abiodun explained.
He added that the four suspects had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang.
