Ex-convict arrested for beating girlfriend to death over N100,000 debt in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old ex-convict, Omokinwa Ademola, for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, to death in Idanre Local Government Area of the state.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. According to him, the suspect assaulted the victim following an argument over the repayment of N100,000 he had borrowed from her.

“The Ondo State Police Command wishes to inform the public that on October 7, 2025, at about 5:30 p.m., one Ngozi Gregory, aged 45, reported at the Idanre Divisional Police Headquarters that one Omokinwa Ademola, an ex-convict, assaulted his girlfriend, Joy Jimoh, over a disagreement concerning the refund of the sum of one hundred thousand naira (N100,000),” the statement read.

During the altercation, Ademola allegedly became violent and repeatedly assaulted the victim until she lost consciousness. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead by a medical practitioner.

Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Idanre led detectives to the scene and arrested the suspect. The remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue for autopsy, while preliminary investigations have commenced.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, condemned the act, describing it as “a barbaric display of violence.” He reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.

Lawal also warned that the command would not tolerate any form of domestic violence or brutality under any circumstance.
