EFCC, Immigration deport 192 foreign convicts for cybercrime in Lagos
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has deported 192 foreign nationals convicted of cyber-terrorism and other internet-related crimes in Lagos.
The EFCC confirmed the deportation in a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, noting that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s cybercrime enforcement and protect the nation’s digital infrastructure.
According to the agency, the deported individuals included citizens of China, the Philippines, Tunisia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Timor-Leste.
The EFCC added that the deportees had all been convicted and served various jail terms in Nigeria before being handed over to the Immigration Service for deportation to their home countries.
The agency reiterated its commitment to working with relevant security and intelligence partners to combat transnational cybercrime and ensure that Nigeria does not become a safe haven for internet fraudsters.
