The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully recovered two luxury vehicles stolen from the Netherlands and illegally shipped into Nigeria.

Force spokesperson, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the recovery in a statement on Monday, October 20, 2025. He revealed that the vehicles were found in Lagos and Akwa Ibom states after a coordinated investigation.

According to Hundeyin, the investigation established that the cars were stolen from Amsterdam and Midden-Nederland before being shipped through the port of Antwerp in Belgium to Apapa, Lagos, in late 2023.

“Following the recovery, the Nigeria Police Force, through INTERPOL NCB Abuja, instituted civil forfeiture proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja,” the statement read.

He added that, after due legal processes, the court issued a final forfeiture order in favor of the Government of the Netherlands through the vehicles’ insurance company, authorizing their lawful repatriation.

On Monday, October 20, 2025, the NPF INTERPOL team officially handed over the vehicles to representatives of the insurance company and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Nigeria, marking the successful completion of the cross-border recovery and restitution exercise.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the INTERPOL NCB Abuja operatives for their professionalism and effective collaboration with international partners, particularly INTERPOL NCB The Hague.

He emphasized that the operation demonstrates the Force’s unwavering commitment to global law enforcement cooperation and to dismantling criminal networks involved in transnational vehicle theft and smuggling.

Egbetokun reaffirmed that the NPF will continue to strengthen intelligence-led policing and international partnerships to combat all forms of organized crime.
