A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage of two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, within 60 days following their involvement in viral videos described as “indecent” by authorities.

The order was issued on Monday, October 20, 2025, by Magistrate Halima Wali, who ruled that failure to carry out the marriage within the stipulated period would amount to contempt of court.

The court also directed the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to supervise the execution of the order.

According to the Censorship Board, the videos in question violated state laws prohibiting the production and circulation of sexually suggestive or obscene content.

The duo was arraigned before the court after clips showing them engaging in romantic gestures went viral on social media. Authorities said the scenes were contrary to the moral and religious values upheld in the state.

Mai Wushirya was previously remanded in a correctional facility after videos of him shirtless and performing what officials described as “immoral and demeaning acts” circulated online. His co-creator, Yar Guda, was later invited and interrogated by the Censorship Board’s enforcement team before the case was transferred to court.

The ruling has since stirred debate online, with some questioning the legal and ethical implications of ordering a marriage as punishment for alleged indecency.
