Spanish police have arrested two suspects, including the housemaid of Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas, over the theft of five designer watches worth £175,000 from his Madrid residence.

According to Spanish media, the housemaid allegedly swapped Casillas’ luxury timepieces with cheap replicas in a bid to sell the originals for parts. The second suspect, identified as a security guard at the exclusive estate where the 44-year-old football icon lives, is believed to have assisted in the scheme.

Casillas reportedly became suspicious after noticing irregularities in his prized watch collection and contacted the police, who later set a trap that led to the suspects’ arrest.

Telecinco’s El Programa de Ana Rosa reported that investigators discovered dismantled watch parts matching models from Casillas’ collection at the couple’s home. The suspects have since been handed over to the courts in Pozuelo de Alarcón, an upscale Madrid municipality.

Local outlet Pozuelo IN revealed that the stolen items included several gold Rolex watches valued at over €50,000 (£43,500) each, though authorities believe the total loss could be higher.

Casillas, who did not keep a detailed inventory of his collection, is said to have been deeply shaken by the betrayal from two people he trusted.

The former Spain and Real Madrid goalkeeper, who retired from professional football in 2020 after suffering a heart attack during training with Porto, has also given statements to investigators alongside his ex-wife, journalist Sara Carbonero.

Casillas, widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history, made over 500 appearances for Real Madrid during his illustrious 16-year career before joining FC Porto.
