A 33-year-old man, Taiwo Adekanbi, was on Monday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly stealing a pumping machine valued at N250,000.
Adekanbi, who has no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and damage.
The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 8 at No. 1 Alafia Street, off Oloko Block, Baba Ode area, Onibukun, Ota.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant unlawfully entered the house of the complainant, Aliu Semiu, and stole a pumping machine worth N250,000. He further said that the defendant also damaged a padlock, casing, and rope valued at N62,800.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 390 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
Fadairo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed, with evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.
The case was adjourned until November 18 for further hearing.
