A Philippine military Super Huey helicopter crashed on Tuesday in Agusan del Sur province, Mindanao, while on a relief operation, the Philippine Air Force (PAF) has confirmed.

According to a statement issued by the PAF on Tuesday, “the aircraft was part of a flight of four helicopters that had departed from Davao City to Butuan City to conduct a Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis mission.”

The Air Force said communication with the helicopter was lost during the operation, prompting the immediate launch of a search and rescue mission.

“The PAF added that a thorough investigation was being conducted to determine the circumstances and cause of the accident,” the statement noted, adding that “further details will be released as they become verified and available.”

The Super Huey helicopter is one of the most commonly used aircraft in the Philippine Air Force, primarily deployed for transport, disaster response, and supply missions — especially in remote or weather-affected regions.

The Mindanao region has recently been grappling with the aftermath of Typhoon Kalmaegi, which brought heavy rains and severe flooding across many parts of the Philippines.
