A Nigerian journalist and researcher, Reuben Buhari, has raised alarm over a woman who allegedly stages fake asthma attacks in public to extort money from unsuspecting residents.

Buhari, in a Facebook post on Thursday, said he first encountered the woman weeks earlier when she pretended to be in distress. He offered assistance, only to later discover that she had allegedly been using the same tactic repeatedly across different locations.

He explained that after sharing his initial experience online, several people reached out to confirm that the woman is known for collapsing or “fainting” in public to attract sympathy and financial support.

According to him, the latest incident occurred near Paradise Park in Barnawa, Kaduna, where the woman reportedly “fainted” again. Buhari said he was alerted and, upon seeing her photo, immediately recognised her as the same individual previously accused of the act.

“If this woman ‘faints’ in front of your gate, know that she does that for a living,” he warned. “If you still want to help her, help her, but know that she is a scammer.”

The journalist advised residents to be cautious and verify such emergency situations before offering financial assistance.
