Catholic Bishops Urge FG to Address Rising Food Prices and Hardship
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps in addressing the escalating food prices and worsening economic hardship affecting millions across the country.
In a communique issued at the conclusion of their week-long second Plenary Meeting in Auchi Diocese, Edo State, the CBCN urged the government to provide subsidies, soft loans, modern technology, and improved seedlings to farmers. They also stressed the importance of supporting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to help stimulate the economy.
The bishops highlighted the intense suffering of Nigerians, compounded by soaring electricity tariffs, high fuel costs, and poor infrastructure. They called for a shift in political leadership towards a service-oriented approach, prioritizing the well-being of the people over self-interest.
