Four people have died and 14 others were injured after gunmen opened fire at a family gathering in Stockton, northern California, on Saturday night.

The shooting occurred during a child’s birthday party, according to Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee, who confirmed the incident in a Facebook post. He said he was in contact with public safety officials and vowed to push for answers as investigations continue.

Police said they received emergency calls shortly before 6:00 p.m. local time (0200 GMT) about gunfire near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed in a statement on X that 14 people were struck by bullets, and four victims were pronounced dead.

Authorities described the attack as a “very active and ongoing” investigation. Early indications suggest the shooting may have been targeted, though detectives are exploring all angles. No details about possible suspects have been released.

Officials urged the public to remain calm and report any information that could assist in the investigation.
