The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has cautioned corps members against embarking on unauthorized journeys during their service year, citing rising insecurity and criminal activities across parts of the country.

Nafiu gave the warning while addressing members of the 2025 Batch ‘C’ currently undergoing their orientation at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Okada, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State.

He urged corps members to prioritize their personal safety by remaining vigilant at their places of primary assignment and avoiding night travel. The DG also advised them to verify information before sharing it on social media to curb the spread of misinformation.

Nafiu further warned against engaging in cultism, cybercrime, thuggery, and other social vices that could endanger their lives or tarnish the image of the scheme. Instead, he encouraged them to build meaningful networks within their host communities and contribute positively during their service year.

Earlier, the Edo State Coordinator of NYSC, Dr. Ifeoma Frances Ben-Ushie, commended the corps members for their discipline and full participation in camp activities. She also thanked the NYSC leadership for providing a conducive environment for training.

The NYSC DG also attended the 23rd convocation ceremony of Igbinedion University, Okada, where he delivered a lecture on “Integrating the Potentials, Prospects and Challenges of AI as the New Order in Higher Education.” He emphasized the need for institutions and young people to take charge of how artificial intelligence shapes the future, warning that those who fail to adapt risk becoming spectators in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Nafiu stressed that AI is already transforming higher education globally and urged Nigerian institutions to make strategic decisions that will secure a better future for coming generations
