FG Secures Release of 100 Abducted Schoolchildren in Niger

The Federal Government has secured the release of 100 schoolchildren abducted from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.

Channels Television confirmed the development on Sunday, December 7, 2025, although no official statement had been issued by the authorities at the time of filing this report.

Suspected terrorists had stormed the school on November 21, 2025, abducting a total of 303 pupils, students and staff members.

About 50 of the abducted pupils reportedly escaped from captivity within 24 hours of the incident and were later reunited with their families.

Following the latest release, a total of 153 pupils and 12 teachers are still believed to be in the custody of the abductors, raising continued concern among families and residents of the area.
