Funke Akindele Thanks Fans as Behind The Scenes Hits £42,000 UK, N200m Nigeria Box Office
Filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has expressed gratitude to fans following the impressive box office performance of her latest film, Behind The Scenes, in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
The movie recorded more than N200 million in Nigerian cinemas and £42,000 across the UK and Ireland during its opening weekend, marking one of the biggest Nollywood debuts of the year.
Reacting to the milestone on social media, Akindele described the feat as a major achievement, noting that the film delivered the biggest opening weekend of 2025 so far. She thanked Nigerian audiences for turning out in large numbers and making the release a resounding success.
The actress also appreciated fans in the UK and Ireland, crediting their support for helping the movie secure the biggest Nollywood opening weekend ever in those markets.
“We’re showing up and not giving up. Big thanks to everyone in Nigeria who came out to support Behind The Scenes. We broke another record with the biggest opening of 2025,” she wrote.
She added that the strong turnout in the UK and Ireland further underscored the growing global appeal of Nollywood films.
Released on December 12, Behind The Scenes continues to screen in cinemas nationwide in Nigeria as well as selected Odeon cinemas in the UK and Ireland, and has received positive reviews from viewers since its debut.
