Rear Adm. Abubakar Mustapha, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Western Naval Command, has commended his personnel for outstanding performance in 2025 and called for more collaboration with sister agencies to fortify Nigeria’s maritime security.
Mustapha said this at the Western Naval Command Cocktail and Dinner 2025, held at the Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT Officers’ Mess, on Friday in Apapa, Lagos.
He said that the personnel’s professional excellence and doggedness had been instrumental to the successes recorded in ensuring the safety of Nigeria’s maritime domain and prosperity.
“Tonight we have come together as a family not only to celebrate the conclusion of a remarkable year but to also acknowledge the Almighty for his benevolence.
“As we embark on the journey to a new year, I encourage you to continue to foster collaboration with our sister services and other government agencies as well as international partners.
“You must realise that the strength of our maritime defense lies not only in individual prowess but in the unity of purpose and the bond forged in collaboration,” the FOC said.
Mustapha said that his men had consistently stood as a symbol of excellence — even through the challenges, which he described as dynamic and unpredictable.
“Therefore, as we reflect on the achievements of this year, let us also look ahead with optimism and sense of purpose toward achieving even more in the year 2026.
“I have no doubt that you will live up to your responsibilities by remaining steadfast in your commitment,” he said.
The FOC thanked the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, for his unwavering support to the command, which had led to the successes recorded in 2025.
Mustapha also appreciated the spouses and family members whose patience, perseverance and loyalty had contributed significantly to professional conduct.
Also, the Admiral Superintendent Naval Dockyard Ltd., Rear Adm. Ibrahim Shehu, said that the Chief of Naval Staff’s strategic guidance paved way for the achievements of the Nigerian Navy in Lagos area.
Shehu said that the dinner created a perfect space to reflect on common achievements for the year, and to regroup, rethink and reset strategies for more remarkable accomplishments in the coming year.
He also commended the FOC for his innovative leadership that conceptualised the event, and provided a beautiful ambience for the night gathering.
