Funke Akindele’s Behind The Scenes rakes in ₦512m in first week, tops 2025 box office

Award-winning actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has once again underlined her dominance at the Nigerian box office as her latest film, Behind The Scenes, grossed ₦512 million within its first week in cinemas.

The feat makes the movie the highest-grossing Nollywood title of 2025 so far and the fastest Nigerian film to cross the ₦500 million mark this year, further cementing Akindele’s reputation as a consistent box office force.

Distributor FilmOne Entertainment earlier disclosed that the film shattered five opening-weekend records, emerging as the top film of the weekend and setting new benchmarks for Nollywood releases in 2025.

Announcing the milestone, FilmOne wrote: “Another history has been made. Thank you, West Africa, for showing up, filling cinemas, and carrying this story with love. ₦512M at the box office.

Highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025. Fastest Nollywood movie to hit ₦500M. Number one film of the weekend. This is what belief looks like.”

Behind The Scenes benefited from strong pre-release momentum, with advanced screenings held on December 10 and 11 generating widespread excitement ahead of its nationwide cinema debut on December 12.

The film features a star-studded cast, including Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre and Uche Montana, among others.
Akindele’s latest success follows a string of record-breaking releases.

Her previous movie, Everybody Loves Jenifa, posted Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend ever, overtaking the earlier record set by A Tribe Called Judah, which opened with ₦113 million. Everybody Loves Jenifa later became the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, earning over ₦1.8 billion in Nigeria, in addition to revenues from international markets.
