The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has concluded investigations into allegations of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations involving 16 officers arrested in October 2025, with some found to have cases to answer, Defence Headquarters said on Monday.
In an update issued by the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, the military said the investigation report has been forwarded to the appropriate superior authority in line with existing regulations.
According to the statement, the comprehensive probe—conducted in accordance with established military procedures—examined the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel. The findings identified a number of the officers with allegations of plotting to overthrow the government, conduct described as inconsistent with the ethics, values and professional standards expected of members of the AFN.
The military said officers with cases to answer will be formally arraigned before appropriate military judicial panels to face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other applicable service regulations.
“This ensures accountability while upholding the principles of fairness and due process,” the statement said.
Defence Headquarters stressed that the actions being taken are purely disciplinary and part of the armed forces’ internal mechanisms to preserve order, discipline and operational effectiveness within the ranks.
The AFN reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, loyalty and respect for constitutional authority.
