Police investigate alleged assault on actor Ijoba Lande in Lagos
The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into allegations that police officers assaulted popular actor and content creator, Ijoba Lande, during an encounter in Lagos.
Lande, who recently returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom, accused the officers of physically attacking him and his friend, as well as seizing his iPhone 16 Pro Max and $1,200, reportedly belonging to his brother.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the actor appeared visibly injured, with blood stains on his face and shirt, as he recounted the incident. Describing the attack as life-threatening, he said, “I nearly lost my life,” while friends around him urged him to formally report the matter.
The video sparked widespread public outrage and renewed debate over police brutality and abuse of power in Nigeria.
Confirming the development, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said on Friday that the officers involved had been identified and brought in for questioning.
“The officers involved have been identified and brought forward to the Command for investigation,” she said. “At the moment, both the officers, the actor, and his friend are giving their statements. Further developments will be communicated accordingly.”
While details of the incident were not disclosed, the police assured the public that the matter is being treated with seriousness and due process.
