Outrage in China as Firework Thrown into Locked Cage Burns Pet Dog to Death
A wave of anger has swept across social media in China after a pet dog was burned to death when two children allegedly threw a lit firework into its locked cage in Jiangsu province.
The incident occurred around noon on February 1, 2026, according to local media reports. The Samoyed dog, named Xiao Wang, had lived with its owner for seven years before the tragic घटना.
Reports say the firework ignited cloth inside the cage, triggering a blaze that quickly spread. Neighbours reportedly heard the dog howling in pain for several minutes as the fire took hold. Despite attempts to intervene, the animal later died from its injuries.
Footage of the incident captured by CCTV has since been released by the dog’s owner, identified as Jiang. The video, which shows the moment the fire started, has gone viral online, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation.
According to reports, one of the boys attempted to put out the fire with water after realising what had happened, but the effort was unsuccessful.
The owner decided to make the footage public after the parents of the children allegedly failed to apologise for the incident. They were also accused of downplaying the घटना, reportedly dismissing it by saying it was “just a dog.”
Animal welfare advocates and social media users have condemned the act as cruel and inhumane, calling for accountability and stronger protections for animals.
The case has reignited debate in China over animal cruelty, parental responsibility and the need for stricter laws and enforcement to protect pets and animals from abuse.
