Police Arrest Motel Owner, Two Others in Anambra, Recover Pump-Action Gun, Drugs
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested and detained three male suspects over alleged illegal possession of a firearm and involvement in illicit drug activities.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Thursday in Awka, stating that the suspects were apprehended at a motel in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to Ikenga, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible intelligence, raided the motel in the late hours of Feb. 9 and arrested the suspects, aged 39, 26 and 18.
He said a Jojef pump-action gun with breach number 21SA-0724, loaded with three live cartridges, was recovered during a search of the premises.
Ikenga disclosed that during interrogation, the motel owner confessed to the offence, leading to the arrest of the other two suspects.
“Further search led to the recovery of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, crystal methamphetamine, Colos and mkpuru-mmiri,” he said.
The police spokesman reiterated the command’s commitment to sustained operations against criminal elements in the state and urged residents to continue providing useful information to support security efforts.
He added that investigations were ongoing and that further updates would be communicated as developments unfold.
