Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rendering the needed support to Nigeria Army for enhanced safety and security of citizens.
Fintiri stated this at the Nigerian Army Social Activities (NASA) originally known as West African Social Activities (WASA) celebrated by the 23 Brigade Yola on Wednesday.
Represented by his deputy Prof. Kaletafwa Farauta, Fintri reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rendering the needed support to make the personnel move and fight effectively for peace.
“We will continue to partner with the military leadership to ensure that selected infrastructure like the road network within this barracks receives the attention it deserves.
“As we enjoy the cultural display, the food, and the exhibition of our heritage today, let us be reminded that our diversity is our greatest strength,” he said.
Fintiri also described the families of the personnel of the armed forces of Nigeria, as the silent heroes of national security.
He explained that while their loved ones were on the front lines, they manage the home front with a resilience that was truly inspiring.
Fintiri further said, the annual socio-cultural celebration was more than just a break from the rigours of professional duty, but was also a testament to the unity in diversity that defined the armed forces.
Brig.-Gen. Amaechi Agwu, Acting Commander, 23 Brigade Yola, Adamawa, said WASA was an annual military tradition designed to foster camaraderie, celebrate cultural diversity and strengthen civil military relationships.
“The WASA dates back to the Would War II era where African soldiers offered sacrifices for a bountiful harvest and peace in the new year.
“This is to advance the transformation of the Nigerian army into a more professional, adaptable and combat ready at any time.
“We want a resilient force capable of decisively discharging its constitutional responsibilities within a joint and multi-agency environment,” he said.
Agwu also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Waidi Shaibu for the support of the Operation Hadinkai and the Command.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the highlights of the event includes cultural display by Igbo, Fulani, Margi, and Yuruba cultural groups.
Others are Tug of War contests- female soldiers vs female corps members, band display and lighting of camp fire among others.
