Police arrest 13 suspects over deadly violence at Ondo APC ward congress

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 13 suspects in connection with a violent attack that disrupted the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) ward congress in Idanre, leaving two people dead and several others injured.

The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident occurred on February 18 during the APC ward congress, where three other victims sustained injuries and multiple properties were destroyed.

According to him, the arrests were carried out through a coordinated, intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Idanre Division, following sustained surveillance and actionable intelligence. The suspects were identified as Adewusi, Dele, Akinkurole, Victor, Abbas, Michael, Jolojolo, Ifedayo, Olamilekan, Emmanuel, Sunday, Michael and Monday.

Jimoh said the operation was ordered by the Adebowale Lawal, noting that the suspects have made useful statements that are aiding ongoing investigations.

Lawal reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that all those involved in the attack are brought to justice. He urged residents of Idanre and other communities across Ondo State to remain calm, law-abiding and to continue providing timely information to support investigations and strengthen public safety.

Couple abducted in Akure North

In a separate incident, gunmen have abducted a couple in Ilu-Abo, a community in Akure North Local Government Area.

The victims, identified as Jamiu Olawale and his wife, were reportedly attacked by armed men who emerged from a nearby bush as they returned from their shop on Friday. During the нападение, the gunmen also shot a neighbour, Patrick Ilumaro, who was sitting in front of his residence. He was rushed to hospital and is currently receiving treatment.

Police investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
