Governor of Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not disturbed despite having only two serving governors following recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Makinde made the remark on Tuesday during an expanded meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) held in Abuja.

The governor’s comment followed the defection of Dauda Lawal, governor of Zamfara State, from the PDP on Monday. His exit left only Makinde and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State as the party’s remaining governors.

Addressing party leaders at the meeting, Makinde described the current situation as a challenging period for the PDP and Nigeria’s democracy but expressed confidence that the crisis would pass.

He noted that although the party is going through turbulence, its members remain committed to standing with the people.

Makinde said he had consulted several individuals involved in Nigeria’s political development and many had not witnessed a political landscape similar to the current situation.

He added that when the history of the period is eventually written, PDP members who stayed behind would be remembered for supporting the masses.

The governor also downplayed speculations about further defections, expressing optimism that the party would overcome the ongoing crisis.

Meanwhile, former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, who also spoke at the meeting, called for unity and urged party leaders to find a lasting solution to the challenges facing the PDP.

Wabara said the party’s Board of Trustees considered the recent judgment of the Court of Appeal as an opportunity for the party to rebuild and move forward.

According to him, the meeting was convened to enable members deliberate seriously on the party’s future and make decisions in line with the party’s constitution and the rule of law.
