Ghana Introduces Visa-Free Entry for All African Nationals Starting May 25

Ghana has announced visa-free entry for all African nationals, with the new policy set to take effect on May 25, aligning with celebrations for Africa Day.

In a statement, Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said travelers from across the continent will no longer be required to pay visa fees when visiting the country. The move is aimed at boosting regional integration, trade, and mobility.

Officials described the decision as a reflection of Pan-African ideals, emphasizing its role in strengthening economic cooperation and encouraging closer ties among African nations.

The ministry added that the policy will be supported by a modern e-visa system designed to streamline applications and improve efficiency. Despite the relaxed entry requirements, all travelers will still undergo standard security screening in line with international protocols.

The initiative builds on a policy direction set by former President Nana Akufo-Addo, who approved visa-free travel for African passport holders in 2025 as part of efforts to advance continental integration.

Ghana’s decision aligns with broader goals under the African Union and complements the vision of the African Continental Free Trade Area, which seeks to create the world’s largest single market.

Several African countries, including Rwanda, The Gambia, Benin, and Seychelles, have already implemented similar visa-free policies for African travelers.
