Egypt, Sudan Hold Talks on Resolving Ongoing Sudanese Crisis

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Sudanese Foreign Minister Hussein Awad on Tuesday to discuss joint efforts toward resolving the crisis in Sudan.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to preserving Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, while also highlighting Egypt’s support for Sudanese citizens living in Egypt, ensuring their safety until conditions allow for their return. This was conveyed in a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Awad expressed gratitude for Egypt’s role in seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict, which has devastated Sudan since April 2023. The violence, involving clashes between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has resulted in over 16,650 deaths.

According to the latest UN data, approximately 10.7 million people have been displaced within Sudan, with around 2.2 million seeking refuge in neighboring countries. Egyptian authorities reported that by March 2024, about 500,000 Sudanese refugees had entered Egypt since the conflict’s outbreak.
